About EX Academy
EX Academy is an independent online training preparation platform built specifically for hazardous area electrical professionals. We exist to help inspectors, electricians, engineers, and technicians build, strengthen, and maintain their hazardous area knowledge — not just in the weeks before an assessment, but throughout their careers.
What We Do
We provide structured learning content, interactive mock assessments, hands-on inspection simulations, and equipment selection scenarios covering the full scope of IEC 60079 hazardous area electrical work — from zone classification and gas group selection through to Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, Ex p, Ex t, and IEC 60079-17 periodic inspection.
Our 14 training modules are designed to cover CompEx-style Ex01–Ex04 preparation topics in a learner-friendly format. Our 14 inspection simulations put you in the role of a responsible inspector — working through Visual, Close, and Detailed inspection phases on real equipment types, in real zone classifications, with mentor feedback on every decision.
What We Are Not
EX Academy is an independent training preparation platform. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated as an official CompEx awarding body. Completion of training on this platform does not confer a CompEx Certificate of Core Competence or any other formal qualification. Real competency certification requires attendance at an approved assessment centre.
Why We Built It
Hazardous area electrical work is safety-critical. The consequences of getting it wrong — in Zone 1 IIC hydrogen service, on a live offshore platform, inside a Zone 21 dust environment — are severe. We built EX Academy because we believe the professionals responsible for this work deserve high-quality, accessible, continuously updated training resources they can use any time, anywhere — not just a textbook and a day-course.
Content Quality
All content is written by hazardous area specialists with reference to the current IEC 60079 standard series. Our inspection simulations are built around real deficiency types found during actual periodic inspections in Zone 0, 1, 2 and Zone 21 environments. We update our content library regularly to reflect standard updates, common inspection findings, and subscriber feedback.
